Physeteric Faith Disaster

The last track to be written for Megafaunal. Loads of changes and Jake exorcising the demon of whether he could ‘sing’ the chorus: this song was a challenge to say the least! The mad guitar riff in the verse was lovingly named The Dying Fly (remember Tiswas, anyone?). Personally, I’m really proud of the mid-section. It was one of those rehearsal Eureka! moments.

Another Dragons’ Den pitch from Jake was required for the lyrics. This time he wanted to sing about whales having a religion! Four cans of Red Stripe and three bottles of Magners later, we would have believed anything Jake said.

Creatures of the last days,
Wander the bloodshot earth,
Eyes blinded by the dying sun,
Bewitched by birth,

On iron waves, he is buoyed by our shame,
A fossil captive, a relic and a slave.

Brightly as the first fire,
Carved by lightning in ancient rock,
Hard as winters tongue,
Wrapped round earthen warriors,
Bewitched by birth, waiting for the concrete burn.

On iron waves, he is buoyed by our shame,
A fossil captive, a relic and a slave.
Bleached bones crown the hill, coronation of the dead,
A grave sorrow, Megafaunal Genocide.

On iron waves, he is buoyed by our shame,
A fossil captive, a relic and a slave.
Bleached bones crown the hill, coronation of the dead,
They linger on trodden paths, of ivory and sacred bone,
The mind proffers hell, wolf and whale trapped and slain,
A grave sorrow, Megafaunal Genocide.
